Last night I downloaded Book 4, "The Rise of Theodore Roosevelt" by Edmund Morris. I don't know much about Roosevelt and I don't remember much from what I learned in school.
He probably wouldn't be on my list except that a few months ago my girlfriend and I went to see Jeffery D. Sachs (no relation!), the Director of The Earth Institute, Quetelet Professor of Sustainable
Development, and Professor of Health Policy and Management at Columbia
University speak at University of Baltimore. Neither one of us were having a particularly great day and thought about canceling on each other but didn't. We were running late, had issues with parking and had to book it to the speech. We were lucky to get two seats next to each other. Sachs spoke about the financial issues this country is struggling with, his ideas on how to fix the issues and other political ideals that he had. It was a GREAT event. My girlfriend and I left there being so thankful we didn't cancel on each other. The one thing that stood out to me was he mentioned we needed a
president like Theodore Roosevelt to help this country move forward. I
thought, "Well damn... I don't know much about Teddy". When I started putting this challenge together I thought I might as well learn about him!
I didn't do too well reading the Ben Franklin book. I had a hard time getting into the style of writing but I'm hopeful for this book because it is an biography not a autobiography. I can only keep my fingers crossed because when I opened the book on my Nook I saw that this book is 977 pages. WOWSERS. I attempted to read some last night but only got part way through the prologue. Monday's usually make for a tiring evening. This might take me a little while to get done. I hope its a good read!
